    What cookies are

    Cookies are small text files stored on your computer, tablet or phone and sent to your browser by our web server. Most websites use them. They let a site remember your basket, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is being used.

    Where this policy says "cookies" it also covers similar technologies such as browser storage and tracking pixels.

    Your choice, and how to change it

    When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. Nothing in those two categories is set until you agree.

    Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent and cannot be switched off, because the site will not function without them - your basket would empty and you could not stay signed in.

    You can change your choice at any time:

    • the Cookie settings link in our footer, or
    • the button at the bottom of this page

    Your choice is remembered for 12 months if you accept and 6 months if you decline, after which we will ask again. Declining does not affect your ability to browse, order or contact us, and we will not ask again on every page.

    The three categories

    Strictly necessary - always on

    Keep your basket, keep you signed in, protect forms against misuse, and remember your cookie choice. Set by us and by VB Media, our e-commerce platform. Our own consent cookie is pl_consent and stores only your choice and the date you made it.

    Analytics - only with your consent

    • Google Analytics 4 - visitor numbers, which pages are used, and where people arrived from, as aggregated statistics
    • Microsoft Clarity - how pages are actually used, including session recordings of scrolling, clicks and taps, so we can find where the site confuses or fails people. Clarity attempts to mask text typed into form fields

    Before you consent, Google Analytics runs in a restricted mode using Google Consent Mode, setting no identifying cookies and collecting only aggregate, cookieless measurement.

    Advertising - only with your consent

    • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) - measures whether our advertising works and lets us show relevant adverts on Meta platforms

    Cookies our website platform sets

    Our website platform sets a small number of its own cookies, including first-party identifiers used for server-side analytics. These are described in the table below, which is maintained by our platform provider.

    Cookie names and durations

    The specific names, and how long each lasts, are set by the providers above and by our website platform. They change when those providers update their products, so we do not publish a fixed list here that would quickly become inaccurate.

    You can see exactly which cookies are set on your own device through your browser's privacy settings or developer tools, and each provider publishes current details in its own documentation.

    Other third parties

    Our site loads an accessibility toolbar from a third-party provider, which may store your accessibility preferences on your device so the site remembers them. We treat this as strictly necessary, because putting an accessibility tool behind a consent banner would disadvantage the people who most need it.

    Our stylesheet and some images are served from Cloudflare, and the site is delivered through Amazon CloudFront. These are content delivery services and do not set tracking cookies.

    Managing cookies in your browser

    You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the site working, including the basket and checkout. Each browser publishes its own guidance, and the Information Commissioner's Office offers general advice at ico.org.uk.

    We may update this policy. Changes are posted here with a new version number and date.

    This is a functional cookie that is stored when you add an item to your basket or quotation. It enables the site to remember the contents of your basket.

    It stores an overview of the items added to your basket together with the unique identification code assigned to your basket.

    token

    This is a functional cookie that is stored when a registered user logs into the site. It enables the site to recognise the logged-in customer and maintain their authenticated session.

    __Host-vbm_sid

    This is a first-party session identifier used by our server-side analytics to understand how our website is used.

    It contains a randomly generated identifier which allows page views and other interactions occurring during the same browsing session to be counted together. It does not contain your name, email address or other directly identifying information.

    __Host-vbm_vid

    This is a first-party visitor identifier used by our server-side analytics to produce statistics about use of our website, such as visitor numbers, page views and user journeys.

    It contains a randomly generated identifier and does not contain your name, email address or other directly identifying information. We do not use this identifier for advertising or to create profiles about individual visitors.

    Our server-side analytics

    Information collected through our server-side analytics is used solely to produce statistical information about how our website is used and to help us monitor and improve the service.

    Individual-level analytics information is retained only for as long as necessary to produce aggregate statistics. We aggregate this information regularly, including hourly and daily, and do not retain individual browsing histories for long-term analytics.

    We do not use our server-side analytics for advertising, cross-site tracking or to make decisions about individual visitors.

    These cookies relate to Google Analytics and are separate from our server-side analytics. They are used to collect information about how visitors use our site so that we can compile reports and improve the site.
