Artwork made easy

Every order includes a free artwork check by a real person — you don't need to ask. Foil setup is one of the more technical files we handle, so this check matters more here than almost anywhere.

The foil is applied from a separate layer in your PDF, built as solid 100% black shapes marking exactly where the foil goes — no cyan, magenta or yellow in that layer, and supplied as vector for the crispest result. Use our template, which sets up the pages for you: a single-sided tag needs a 2-page PDF (page 1 your CMYK artwork, page 2 the foil), and a double-sided tag needs a 4-page PDF (front, back, front foil, then a blank fourth page). Two things to design around: keep foil off anything smaller than 10pt text or 1pt lines, because foil registers to roughly ±0.5mm and fine detail won't sit perfectly; and keep content clear of the 6mm drill hole, which the template marks. How do I set up the foil artwork? ›
Foil comes from its own layer: solid 100% black shapes placed exactly where you want foil, with no other colours in that layer, ideally as vector. A single-sided tag is a 2-page PDF (CMYK artwork, then foil); a double-sided tag is a 4-page PDF (front, back, front foil, blank). Our template lays this out — and if it sounds involved, send your design and we'll build the foil file for you.
Can I foil small text or fine lines? ›
Better not to — foil application has a registration tolerance of about ±0.5mm, so anything below 10pt text or 1pt line weight risks looking slightly off-register. Keep foil for logos, larger type and bold shapes, where it looks its best and the slight tolerance never shows.
Are the tags durable? ›
Yes — they're laminated on both sides, which protects the print and the foil and lets the tag survive handling, posting and the occasion itself. They're built to last well beyond a single use.
Is the hole pre-drilled? ›
Yes — a 6mm hole is drilled as standard, ready to thread ribbon, string or elastic. Just keep important content clear of the hole area, which our template marks out for you.
Can I write on the tags? ›
The reverse can carry a writable area for a handwritten note or gift message — a lovely finishing touch for gifts and favours. Tell us if you'd like the back kept writable when you order.
What's the difference from standard swing tags? ›
Standard swing tags are printed in full colour without foil — perfect for everyday product tags and pricing. Foiled swing tags add the metallic foil layer for a premium, luxury finish, ideal when the tag itself is part of the product's appeal.
