Metallic Foil Flyers

Adding a metallic foil to your flyers will create a real feeling of luxury without the associated price tag

Description

A flyer that feels like an invitation

Some messages deserve better than an ordinary flyer. Metallic Foil Flyers add a shimmer of foil over a tactile matt soft-touch laminate, so the piece feels velvety in the hand and catches the light as it turns — the finish that makes an invitation, event programme or premium promotion feel like an occasion. On heavyweight 350gsm or 400gsm stock, single or double-sided. A real person checks your artwork before anything is printed — and on foil work that check earns its keep — and every order helps restore forests through our Print A Tree project.

Artwork made easy

Every order includes a free artwork check by a real person — you don't need to ask. Foil setup is one of the more technical files we handle, so this check matters more here than almost anywhere.

The foil comes from its own layer, built as solid 100% black shapes marking exactly where the foil goes — no cyan, magenta or yellow in that layer, and supplied as vector for the sharpest result. The page structure depends on sides: a single-sided flyer needs a 2-page PDF (page 1 your CMYK artwork, page 2 the foil); a double-sided flyer needs a 4-page PDF (front, back, front foil, then a blank fourth page). Two rules keep the foil crisp: keep foil at least 3mm from the trim edge, and off anything below 10pt text or 1pt lines. Supply CMYK at 300dpi with 3mm bleed and fonts outlined. If the foil-layer setup sounds like a lot, send us your design and we'll build the foil file for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set up the foil artwork?
Foil comes from its own layer: solid 100% black shapes placed exactly where you want foil, no other colours in that layer, ideally vector. A single-sided flyer is a 2-page PDF (CMYK artwork, then foil); a double-sided flyer is a 4-page PDF (front, back, front foil, blank). If that's involved, send your design and we'll build the foil file for you.
Can I foil small text or thin lines?
Keep foil to 10pt text and 1pt lines or larger, and at least 3mm from the trim edge. Foil has a slight registration tolerance, so very fine detail can look off-register — it looks its best on logos, headlines and bold shapes, which is where it makes the most impact anyway.
Why soft-touch as well as foil?
The matt soft-touch laminate gives the flyer a velvety, premium feel and acts as the ideal backdrop for foil — the matt surface makes the metallic shimmer stand out by contrast. Together they make a flyer that feels expensive the moment it's picked up.
What are foil flyers best for?
Anything where the piece itself should feel special: wedding and event invitations, VIP programmes, product launches, premium menus and luxury brand promotions. When you want the recipient to keep it rather than glance and bin it, foil earns its place.
Can I print both sides?
Yes — single or double-sided, with soft-touch lamination available on one or both sides. Foil is applied to the front; if you need foil on both faces, tell us and we'll advise on the setup.
How is this different from a standard flyer?
A standard flyer is printed and finished flat and is the economical choice for volume; a foil flyer adds the metallic foil and soft-touch feel for a genuinely premium piece. For a big print run where cost leads, choose standard — for invitations and pieces meant to impress, foil is worth it. We print both.
